Local farm acts as 'classroom in the countryside' - 31/08/2010
A farm near Peasedown St John, which was once the site of a Buddhist temple, is at the heart of a project helping young people to find a stimulating way back into education.

Laurel Farm, at Carlingcott, covers seven acres and has sheep, pigs and chickens, as well as ponds, a natural spring and woodland, making it the ideal setting for a land-based studies course being run in partnership with Norton Radstock College.

Young people begin learning new skills in a relaxed atmosphere at Laurel Farm and move on to the College when they feel ready to take up training, which will lead to a qualification and increase their employment prospects.

Business training could boost your job prospects, teenagers told - 25/08/2010
Master the latest techniques of the business world, and you could open the door to an amazing range of job opportunities.

This is the message being aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 years old living in the Keynsham, Bath and Bristol area by Nadine Spong, head of the Keynsham Business and Secretarial Centre.

She said: "We have just completed our first academic year as a solely business, secretarial and ICT training centre, for people aged 16 to 18, and the performance of the students shows what can be achieved, even after just one year’s study.

Seven College students graduate at Bath Spa - 24/08/2010
Friends and family members were on hand to cheer seven students from Norton Radstock College who were awarded the Foundation degree in Education Studies for Teaching Assistants at Bath Spa University.

They were honoured at a graduation ceremony held at the university's Newton Park campus, along with nine other successful students, who were unable to attend.

The seven are currently working as teaching assistants at schools all over the Bath and North East Somerset area.

Green-fingered student follows in father's footsteps - 27/07/2010
Twenty-five years after her father enrolled for a horticulture training course at Norton Radstock College, 17 year old Jessica Bookham is following in his footsteps

Not only is Jessica studying at the same College, and following the same course as her father - she has gone one step further, winning the Jack & Jill Kilmersdon Trophy, given annually to the College's best horticulture student.

Jessica's award was one of 25 announced at the College's annual Achievement Awards ceremony, held at the Radstock campus.

College helps workers fight back after losing their jobs - 12/07/2010
Britain may be struggling to recover from economic recession, but two Keynsham people who lost their jobs through redundancy are optimistic that the retraining they have received will help them to find new jobs.

For Bill Rayson and Linda Haynes, the initial shock of redundancy was huge, but they refused to accept that their working life was over.
