Functional Skills


What are Functional Skills?
Functional Skills are practical skills in English, Maths and ICT which allow you to be confident and independent in everyday life. They are part of the education programme for all learners aged 14 and above.

Where do they fit in?
They are a stand-alone qualification and from 2010 will automatically form part of GCSEs in English, Maths and ICT, the Diploma, Apprenticeships and the Foundation Learning.

At what levels are Functional Skills offered?
Functional Skills will be offered from Entry Level up to Level 2. If you study a Diploma, you will complete Functional Skills at the same level (up to Level 2).
